How to be a Player in the Game of the Recording Industry Tip

01/06/2014

As you can see, there were NO tips over the weekend. That is all relative to today’s tip…

Make time for Family!

A lot of us get so caught up in our workmodes or financial life of being an artist, producing music and promoting ourselves that we forget about the people that will always and have always been there for us…our family.

Granted, a lot of times our families are failing us by not being totally honest with us with their feedback BUT they are not hurting your feelings primarily because they love you and they don’t want to see you hurt. I can’t fault that. I can fault you for not recognizing that all this damn work your are putting in will mean NOTHING if you don’t have anyone to enjoy the better days with.

For me, my family time is on the weekend. For other’s that “family time” may be other times of the week or day or month. For some, it is a few hours a day… whatever makes you comfortable, do it.

YOU need to make a conscious effort to stop the “work” stuff and make some time for them. CUT OFF THE PHONE DURING THIS TIME. It could be something as simple as watching a movie with them, cooking dinner together or sitting at the table and eating super together (without the tv). You should treasure these moments NOW because if you are serious about your career and you do everything that it takes to get to that next level, these times will be taken from you due to other obligations.

There will come a time when you may be booked for a show or session and your presence is contractually obligated to be somewhere else.

Take advantage or your somewhat free time NOW. Once you “turn up” it may get so hectic in your life that even your family will have to schedule time in order for them to see you.

Take the time.

Make the time.

Enjoy the time.

Tomorrow ain’t promised so enjoy these days with those that matter to you.
