The is not a race post. When I say black and white and in reference to the recording industry, those term apply to some very critical information…

IS IT ON PAPER!

White paper, black words, with your signature in preferably black or blue ink.

We, Hip Hop people, seen to run from the notion of having things “official” with signed documents.

But the fact of the matter is, if you do NOT have something in writing in THIS industry, it is NOT official. You must leave some sort of paper trail to alleviate and/or curtail most slips and bumps that will eventually come.

You lyrics must be copy written to be considered legal.

You music must be with some publisher to earn residual revenue.

That verbal agreement must be confirmed with a written contract to solidify the matter and make all parties accountable.

You should invoice everyone whom you have to pay considering your project.

All of the above and more are vital to you becoming just a rapper or singer to becoming a viable brand and a recognized business.

To do things without it is only setting yourself up for failure, theft, or some other sideways business practice that is very common in the industry. Put yourself in a position to succeed and put EVERYTHING on paper.
